How do I use a sticky mat?

Sticky mats are one of the most effective ways to monitor varroa infestations. 

Simply peel away the sticker and place plastic mesh screen on the sticky mat. Place sticky mat with mesh on the bottom board under the box of your hive. The adhesive will stick to any mites that fall from the hive. You can then monitor the level of infestation. 

Do I need to place strips in the hive when I use a sticky mat?

Most people use sticky boards at the same time as they place a chemical treatment for varroa.
