Warre Hive

Here at HBS we love warre beekeepers! Some of our staff run warre hives alongside their langstroth hives, so don't be shy about contacting us to ask for advice.

Just as the langstroth hive was originally developed by an American clergyman, the warre hive was developed by Emile Warre, a French monk, in the first part of the 20th century.

Warre hives use less foundation, and the smaller boxes are easier to lift. Warre hives are simple and low-cost, but they circumvent some of the difficulties of top-bar hives. Warre beekeeping methods can be carried out with an eye to pest and disease management, making the warre a simple and economical way for backyard beekeepers to keep healthy colonies and produce excellent honey.

Here at HBS we sell warre frames, warre boxes, warre hive bases and lids, and feeders suitable for use with warre hives. We also sell comb crushers suitable for extracting honey from warre hives.

If you have any questions about any of the gear in this section, please drop us a line.
